NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK!

Happy New Year from The Thankful Goat:) We here at "The Goat" are very excited at what the New Year holds. First of all we will be updating our labels. We loved the idea of the hang tags, but they are very hard to deal with and easily get bent. We want the best looking product we can sell to you. Also, we had a great Christmas! The word got out about our products and now we will be selling in several stores. You can always call in your order or email me or message me on Facebook, but now The Arts Council in Lenoir will be keeping my products full time, as well as Black Bear Books in Boone and Ole Mexico Pottery in downtown Hickory. I will be pulling the merchandise at these places for a short time to retag them, but we should be back up and running in a couple of weeks. We have been given a wonderful opportunity to share soapmaking with some very special little people too. Hudson Elem. School will have me out one day after the babies are born to share with the WHOLE fourth grade! How cool will that be? I will discuss the history of soapmaking, and show them how soap is made. By that time we should have baby goats and they want me to bring them out so the kids can see them. Speaking of the babies, we are very close to Buttercup's kidding. We can't tell if she has one or two, but we are certain we are just days away from knowing. This weather is really bearing down on us. The goats have been heading in to our garage at night. We give them hay and water and they stay in their travel cages to sleep. We have been chopping fresh vegetables for them and they are loving life. The garage stays about 45 degrees, so the girls are excited about their cozy warm 'hotel'. Have a wonderfully blessed New Year and don't forget to give goat love a chance man!

With only 15 shopping days left til Christmas, I have been absolutely humbled by the response of people to our "Thankful Products". I told Steve it's one thing for your friends and family to believe in you and buy your products, but when given the choice to pick from anything in a store from many different artists and crafters and they choose you that's just WOW! I am really grateful:) From now until Christmas Eve All of my products will be at the Caldwell Arts Council. Last Friday was the event opening and there was a packed house. Everything creative you could imagine was packed into the gallery and so much talent. It really put you in a festive kind of mood. And the people we met we so wonderful. If you are local to the area you should try to get buy for some one of a kind presents. Tuesday, December 15th 4 to 8 pm I will be selling at the Hudson Elementary School Christmas Bazaar. You will be able to catch two brand new products: Sweet Almond Sugar Scrub and Oatmeal and Benonite Clay Facial Mask. The goats give it their hoof of approval. As always there will be lots of Goat Milk Soap with 6 new fragrances, along with massage oils, bath salts, and Goat Milk and Honey Lotion. I will also have a Build-A-Basket site where you can custom make baskets for Christmas and bead jewelry and felted lambs wool bags. On another note, we have been plesantly suprised by Buttercup who seems to be farther along in her pregnancy that we thought. We were looking for Valentine's Day babies, but it looks more like we will be ringing in the New Year with her kids. Preparations are underway and the birthing kit is being gathered. I feel like a grandma awaiting her first grandkids! Very nervous to help out with the birth for the first time and the boys are beside themselves. Welcome Christmas

With the temperatures hovering in the 70's it's kind of hard to think about dragging out the tree and ornaments, lighting up the bushes, and heading off to the mall to shop. But the goats and I have been busy little elves looking forward to some merry making:) There is nothing Athena loves more than a sudsy bath and a mani/pedi. You can look at her and tell she is 'in the groove' or at least she 'has her goat on.' On Monday she had such a day. We woke up to find she was in heat for the first time since we bought her back in September. We had aquired a lovely Saanan farm to take her to breed, but "oh my" girlfriend was in need of 'the works' if she was going to make an impression on that handsome boy goat. We got straight to work lathering her up and toenail filing. We always tell her how pretty she looks because she understands that means we love her. Buttercup was watching from the bleachers because she had already had her 'date' for the season. (we are looking for kids the first part of Febuary) So, we arrive at the farm and they bring out the big, hairy, boy goat with his Billy Ray Cyrus mullet and full beard. Quite a funny scene. I'll spare you all the details, but leave you with this: My husband, Steve, is finding it hard to get over and was quite traumatized by the whole affair. Athena didn't feel she got her money's worth and was hoping to at least have a meal and catch a movie. She's a Twi-Hard fan and roots for Team Jacob because she thinks Edward might eat her! So why, you ask, would I call this blog Welcome Christmas? Well because we look forward to baby goats and we're one step closer now. Winter is coming and new birth will be on us. It reminds me of the stable and the animals who over two thousand years ago got to witness the birth of the Christ. Meager little animals in their stall, not at all aware of the changes the world would see in His birth. Not aware of the love God showed for us on that peaceful night. We hope you can experience that peace that can only come from Christ. From the Thankful Goat we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And from Athena and Buttercup, "Give goat love a chance, man!"

For those of you who are new to my blog; Welcome. I have several different things for sale on this site so you may want to go to the right side and click on 2009 for all blogs. These items have become my hobby, a passion if you will. I hope this blog will helped me share my passion with you.
If you had asked me what I thought about goats this time last year my response would have been less than favorable. Never even thought much about them actually. Now, our whole house is ga-ga for these furry quadrapeds. They make us laugh, make us smile, make us watch our step in the yard (and that's probably good as we aren't getting any younger!) I could actually go as far as to say goats helped to save my life. I recently went through a really tough time and when we bought the goats it actually gave me something new to look forward to. They have been with us long enough now that they love us back. Athena and Buttercup see us in the yard and want to come up and touch us. They take their heads and rub up and down and make their little goatie noises we have grown to love. Athena turns her head around while I'm milking her and licks my hair. Yes, it's gross, but you gotta know we are the center of their universe. We are their bread and butter or hay and grain as it were. Shortly after we bought Athena she got into the laurels which are toxic to goats. We had to give her an anti-toxin shot that rendered her milk undrinkable for three weeks. Thus began my first try with goat milk soap. I was hooked. Other people wanted to buy some and news spread. Now I also offer Goat Milk and Honey lotion, Bath Salts, Massage Oil, Linen Sprays, and Mud Facial Masks.
I have always been an artist as far back as I can remember. The first great work I turned out was a cartoon owl my nanny taught me to draw on a used envelope. Looking back over the years I have enjoyed learning many different art forms from many different people. None that I love more than creating jewelry. I have jewelry listed on this blog. It can be shipped or delivered locally. I realize everyone has a different style or want when it comes to accessories, so if you don't see anything that interests you, I will be happy to have you over and select anything you like for a custom fit. I have 100's of different beads to choose from.
I also sell Felted Lambswool Bags here. I love that these are 100% recycled. Yes, they come from wool sweaters! They are great fun. When you 'felt' or shrink them in the washer/dryer you never know what you are going to get. I take the throw away sweaters and make them into great totes and bags. They take on an artistic flare. So grab so cocoa and sit back and shop for a while. Christmas is coming up, you wouldn't want to be caught without that perfect one of a kind gift.

When the weather turns cold, there's nothing that says fashion like sweaters. Well OK so it's really sweatshirts. I will be sewing them smocks soon I guess. Nothing makes you sadder than a shivering goat.
